Cloud providers offer highly available building blocks, but resilience still depends on how systems are composed. Failures in dependencies, configuration, or capacity can affect services regardless of the underlying platform.

Patterns worth adopting

  • Deploy across multiple availability zones by default.
  • Define recovery objectives per service and test against them.
  • Use timeouts, retries with backoff, and circuit breakers between services.
  • Design for graceful degradation when non-critical dependencies fail.
